Load port choice changes transit time, inland cost and how often your container waits. A practical comparison for buyers of Indian spices and grain.
For cargo originating in Rajasthan and Gujarat, the load-port decision is usually between Mundra, Kandla and Nhava Sheva. It is not a formality — it moves both cost and schedule.
Mundra
Closest to our Jodhpur base by road, with strong container connectivity to the Gulf, East Africa and Europe. Congestion is generally lower than at Nhava Sheva, and the inland haul from western Rajasthan is shorter, which matters for onion and other cargo on a clock.
Kandla
Preferred for bulk and breakbulk — wheat, maize and bulk grain programmes. Less useful for small container parcels.
Nhava Sheva (JNPT)
The widest choice of sailings and the best option for buyers in the Americas or the Far East who need a specific carrier. The trade-off is a longer inland leg from Rajasthan and, at peak, more waiting.
What we recommend
For FCL spice and psyllium shipments to the Gulf, Europe and Africa, Mundra is almost always the right answer. For bulk grain, Kandla. For anything where the buyer has nominated a carrier, follow the carrier.
